The present invention relates to a cart and to a secure system and method for opening and closing a cart (1) for transporting merchandise (2) for retail sale on board an airplane (72). Said cart includes a container (3) on wheels (10) and provided with a side opening door (11) and a device (V, 15) for locking the door (11). The device (V, 15) includes: means (16) for mechanically locking the door and means (17) for controlling the mechanical-locking means (16) and including an actuating motor (26); a tag reader (33) for reading the radio-frequency identification tags of a user; means set up for geolocating the cart; calculation means for actuating the motor on the basis of the identity of the user and/or the geolocation of the cart; and timestamping means for recording the opening and/or closing of the door (11) on the basis of the time of said opening and/or said geolocation of the corresponding cart.
