PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve extraction accuracy upon extraction of an area corresponding to a traffic lane boundary line from a vehicle outside image.SOLUTION: A traffic lane boundary line extraction device 1 comprises: a vehicle outside image acquisition unit 2 that acquires vehicle outside image data that is taken by a running vehicle; a white line candidate area detection unit 3 that detects a candidate area of a white line (traffic lane boundary line) from a road surface part of the vehicle outside image data; a road surface area setting unit 4 that sets a road surface corresponding to the candidate area at the road surface part of the vehicle outside image data for each candidate area; a luminance calculation unit 6 that calculates representative luminance of the candidate area and representative luminance of the road surface area; and a white line candidate area evaluation unit 7 that evaluates the candidate area to be suitable as the white line (traffic lane boundary line) when a difference between the representative luminance of the candidate area and the representative luminance of the road surface area is greater than a predetermined threshold.
