System methods and devices for illuminating tissue with monochromatic or broadband light and imaging light reflected back from the tissue are provided. The imaging can be white light imaging or hyperspectral imaging. The system can be a stand-alone hyperspectral imaging system that is integrated as part of an external videoscope or as an auxiliary imaging module on the external videoscope.
