Abstract: Design of a structured high density electrode array for recording surface bio-potentials, based on circular and spiral geometry. The design encompasses varying electrode shapes, heights and/or diameters to match the surface profile of the cortex of interest and also to keep the input/contact impedance of the electrodes in an array equal. The alternative approach is to have the same physical properties for all the electrodes, and to vary the thickness of the secondary more-flexible substrate to ensure proper contact, even when the brain surface is curved. In this approach, the electrode impedance remains constant over the entire surface area which is desirable. The spatio-frequency relationship of the cortex of interest is taken into consideration for design of the high density micro or nano electrode arrays for decoding the stimulus.
