摘要

Abstract Surface engineering plays a vital role in enhancing the wear and mechanical properties. The results obtained from the tests showed that the plasma sprayed WC-Co coating on the Al-Si alloy (LM13) decreased the wear rate. It is observed that the hardness properties of the substrate Al-Si alloy are increased when surface coating is applied. The wear test proves that the wear loss of the substrate is marginally decreased and the wear rate is also decreased when WC-Co is coated on the substrate. The hardness test proves that the micro-hardness of the coated surface is reasonably more than the hardness of the substrate Al-Si alloy. Thus the WC-Co proves to enhance the wear resistance and mechanical properties on the Al-Si alloy.
