A method of converting data from first GIS format to second GIS format. The method comprises providing a plurality of objects from a database of the first GIS format, selecting one object, creating a first file and a second file, storing field name, field type and field size of the selected object in the first file, reading coordinate of the selected object, transforming the coordinate of the selected object from current coordinate system into a standard coordinate system, reading a X and a Y coordinates of the selected object from the standard coordinate system, writing the X and the Y coordinates in the first file, writing a physical field value of the sele cted object in the second file and combining the first file and the second file to obtain the data in the second GIS format.
