A cardiogreen based antimicrobial agent comprising cardiogreen silver complex and an antimicrobial preparation/ composition com¬prising the same for topical application. Said complex in being biocompatible and non-toxic in nature offers a broad spectrum of antimicrobial activity that can be applied for the treatment of simple wounds, burning wound, onychomycosis, and eye infections caused by multi-drug resistant (MDR) pathogens, and more advantageously, is effective in killing microbes resistant to conventional antibiotics.
