A permanent magnet machine with modified rotor configuration comprising: atleast a rotor (306) having a rotor core (301) wherein the permanent magnets (307) are inserted symmetrically; flux barriers (308) are disposed at the bottom of the said permanent magnet and said rotor core (301); characterized in that the rotor (306) of the permanent magnet machine includes atleast a rotor pole designed having five faces (301, 302, 303, 304, 305) of equal width , with third face (303) closer to the stator core (309) with respect to all other faces (301, 302, 304, 305) and second and fourth faces (302, 304) closer to the stator core (309) with respect to first and fifth faces (301 and 305).
