The present invention relates to system (100) and method for monitoring energy consumption and performance of production devices (102-1, 102-2,... 102-n) in an industrial environment. The system (100) comprises of an energy-intensity-computing- device (104). The energy-intensity-computing-device (104) is provided with a processing unit (106), a memory unit (108) and a display unit (110). The energy-intensity-computing-device (104) being interfaced/linked with each of said production devices (102-1, 102- 2,..,102-n) and with their corresponding energy meters (112-1, 112-2, ,112-n). The processing unit (106) is provided with a data collector (116) for collecting energy data from energy meters (112-1, 112-2,,.., 112-n).
