(THI) is a system of reducing the thermal stress of cattle by systematic cooling of animal body as well as the roof. The main component of the system is an automatic controller with temperature and humidity sensors which works based on predefined Temperature Humidity Index (THI) cut offs and optimum timings. The controller system controls three relays Wall Fans which automatically work according to control system for forced ventilation where even required. Modified Sprinkler with solenoid valve/motor pump for intermittent wetting of animal hide working automatically according to the control system. Modified Sprinkler with solenoid valve to wet the roof of the shed intermittently and automatically according to the control system. The selection of suitable formula for the calculation of THI for this purpose and the Cut-Off values for the system were also arrived through scientific analysis THI = Tdb °F- {(0.55-0 55 RH) (Tdb °F -58)} Tdb - Dry-bulb temperature RH- Relative humidity Main advantage of the system is that it reduces the thermal stress and enhances milk production in lactating cows with minimum use of water and electricity. The controller system and the entire cooling procedure are farmer friendly and cost effective. This can be applied in any cattle farm where the animals are maintained in sheds.
