A method of manufacturing a mold for casting an article of metal or alloy, comprising the steps of: - incorporating at least one insert fugitive (50, 50 ') of a ceramic material so as to form a core (100, 100 ') and at least a portion of a wall of the integral mold cooperating (102a, 102b), wherein the core (100, 100') defines an internal feature to be transferred to the cast article and the at least one portion the mold wall (102a, 102b) having an inner surface defining an external characteristic to be transferred to the cast article; - selectively removing the fugitive insert (50, 50 '); and - incorporating the core (100, 100 ') and at least a portion of the wall integral cooperating mold (102a, 102b) in a mold (11, 11') to receive molten metal or alloy.
