Provided is use of a terpene resin base water-series binder in a lithium ion battery negative electrode or a supercapacitor. The terpene resin base water-series binder is prepared from a terpene resin emulsion and carboxymethylcellulose at a certain ratio. The mass ratio of the terpene resin emulsion to carboxymethylcellulose is 100 : 1-1 : 100. The lithium ion battery negative electrode or supercapacitor constituted by the water-series binder containing the terpene resin base has a composition ratio of active material : conductive agent : (terpene resin + carboxymethylcellulose) = 70-95 : 1-20 : 4-10. In the present invention, a natural and environmentally friendly terpene resin is used as a water-series binder for the lithium ion battery or supercapacitor, which can greatly improve the overall cycle stability and rate capability of the battery, and can notably reduce the battery cost.
