The invention relates to a colorimetric system and method for measuring the sugar content of wine and juice in general, in the field or on a production line. According to the invention, colorimetric data are generated from images that have been captured and processed and the image data is transmitted directly or remotely to a central analysis unit in order for the sugar content of the wine or juice sample to be determined. The accuracy of the system and method is equivalent to that of an analysis using an ultraviolet (UV)-visible spectrometer.
