The invention relates to a closure system for ball mills and to a method for opening and closing ball mills. The ball mill comprises a milling vessel (20, 60) with an end opening (21) which can be closed by a closure mechanism (30, 50). The closure mechanism (30, 50) is assigned a first flange (32, 51) with first connecting devices (35, 52), and the end opening (21) of the milling vessel (20, 60) is assigned a second, mating flange (22, 62) with second connecting devices (24, 65). The closure mechanism (30, 50) can be fastened on the milling vessel (20, 60) via the first and the second connecting devices. According to the invention, the first (35, 52) or the second (24, 65) connecting devices constitute a constituent part of at least one rotatable, at least partially annular adjusting element (33, 63). In an open operating position (AP) of the at least one, at least partially annular adjusting element (33, 63), the first and second connecting devices engage loosely one inside the other or through one another. By virtue of rotation, the at least one, at least partially annular adjusting element (33, 63) is transferred into a second, closed locking position (VP). In the closed locking position (VP), the first and second connecting devices have been rotated in relation to one another. Means (27, 37, 55) which establish a force fit form an operative connection, with force-fitting clamping, between the closure mechanism (30, 50) and the milling vessel (20, 60).
