The present invention relates to a composition for preventing or treating inflammation or allergic diseases, containing a Gynura procumbens extract as an active ingredient. The Gynura procumbens extract according to the present invention was verified to have superior efficacies on inflammation and allergic diseases, especially, atopic dermatitis and allergic dermatitis, through a NO generation suppression test using LPS-stimulated rat abdominal macrophages (test example 1); a TNF-α generation suppression test (test example 2); a test on the inhibition of compound 48/80 -induced histamine secretion in mast cells (test example 3); and a DNCB-induced atopic dermatitis animal model test, and thus the Gynura procumbens extract is useful for a pharmaceutical composition for preventing or treating inflammation or allergic diseases, a functional health food, or a health supplement food.
