Pad for use in a machine for preparing at least one part of a single beverage serving, system including a machine and method for preparing a beverage with such a system. Pad (1) including a covering (2) filled with an beverage preparation product (6). The covering comprises a flexible first sheet (8) and a substantially rigid shell (10) which are connected to each other. The shell has at least one outlet opening (12) and comprises a bottom having a substantially flat bottom part (16). The pad is further equipped with a flexible second sheet (22) that is positioned on the bottom of the shell located between the product and the shell. The first sheet and the second sheet each form a filter that allows an aqueous fluid, including water, and the beverage to pass and that forms a barrier for the product. The bottom further comprises a central bottom portion comprising the at least one outlet opening, wherein the substantially flat bottom part is formed by an annular bottom portion(117) positioned radially outward of the central bottom portion and wherein the central bottom portion is a bi-stable central bottom portion (116).
