A mine safety management method and apparatus based on a geographic information system. The method comprises: collecting reported data of each device mounted in a mine (10); comparing the reported data with a pre-set threshold value corresponding to each type of the reported data respectively (20); when at least one type of the reported data exceeds the corresponding pre-set threshold value, generating alarm information for an alarm device (30); according to position information carried in the alarm information and an acquired personnel distribution situation in the mine, determining a distribution position point of each personnel within an alarm area, and according to mine map information maintained by a geographic information system and according to a distribution situation of each position point, further determining an escape path from the alarm area to a safety exit (40); and according to the determined escape path, making an evacuation prompt for the personnel in the alarm area (50). The solution establishes a set of complete safety monitoring, early warning and escape system, which can reduce production safety accidents and reduce personnel casualties and property loss.
