A method for suppressing a low frequency oscillation of a resonance mechanism of an electric power system, comprising: performing signal collection on a system in a measurement step, and performing sequential processing including a blocking step, a proportional resonant control step, a phase compensation step and an amplitude limiting step on a bus power signal therein to obtain an output control signal (Up); superposing the output control signal (Up) and a reference value (Pref) corresponding to a unified power flow controller, and performing a difference operation on the superposed value and the bus power signal; performing difference operations on a bus reactive power signal (Q), a direct current side capacitance voltage signal (Vdc) and a bus voltage signal (Vs) obtained in the measurement step and corresponding reference values thereof respectively; performing sequential processing including a first-order inertial step and a proportional-integral step on each difference signal to obtain currents (Iq, Ip) and voltages (Vq, Vp) corresponding to an output axis q and an output axis p; and injecting the voltages and the currents into the electric power system, thereby increasing damping for suppressing the low frequency oscillation of the resonance mechanism in the system. By means of the method, a resonance oscillation amplitude can be effectively decreased, and the low frequency oscillation of the resonance mechanism is suppressed.
