The invention relates to an intravenous injectable antioxidant formulation comprising high doses of sodium ascorbate as a first antioxidant agent, N-acetylcysteine as a second oxidising agent and deferoxamine as an iron-chelating agent, as well as pharmaceutically acceptable excipients. The invention also relates to a method for the administration of the formulation, producing a synergistic and intensified effect, in order to prevent reperfusion injury to an organ and, in particular, to prevent early and late reperfusion injury in patients with a diagnosis of acute myocardial infarction and an indication of primary coronary angioplasty. The invention also relates to the use of the formulation in order to prevent reperfusion injury in patients with acute myocardial infarction, subjected to primary coronary angioplasty.
