APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR MONITORING SHIP USING AIS MESSAGE

Disclosed are an apparatus and a method for monitoring a ship using an AIS message. The ship comprises: a power sensing module for sensing whether the power state of a very high frequency (VHF) radio is in an on or off state; a volume sensing module for sensing the volume level of a speaker of the VHF radio; a VHF radio monitoring module for generating automatic identification system (AIS) messages comprising the power state sensed by the power sensing module and the volume level sensed by the volume sensing module; and an AIS message transmission module for transmitting the generated AIS message to a vessel traffic service (VTS). The apparatus and the method for monitoring a ship using an AIS message as described above are configured to transmit, to a vessel traffic service through an AIS message, the power on/off state and the volume level of the speaker of the VHF radio mounted on the ship, such that there are effects that the state and volume level are immediately perceived at the vessel traffic service and measures can be taken.
