The present invention addresses the problem of providing a method for producing vanadium-dioxide-containing fine particles with which it is possible to suppress deterioration of thermochromic properties over time, and vanadium-dioxide-containing fine particles and dispersion. Provided is a method for producing vanadium-dioxide-containing fine particles that contain vanadium dioxide (VO2) having thermochromic properties, wherein the method is characterized by including a step for carrying out a hydrothermal reaction of a reaction solution that contains a reducing agent, water, a compound containing vanadium (V), and a metal compound other than vanadium (V), the metal compound content being from 0.1 mass% to less than 5.0 mass% relative to the solids fraction of the reaction solution.
