A method and structure for stabilizing an array of micro elements is disclosed. The stabilization layer comprises an array of stabilization cavities and an array of stabilization posts. Each stabilization cavity includes sidewalls surrounding the stabilization posts. The array of microdevices is on an array of stabilization posts. Each micro-element in the array of micro-elements comprises a bottom surface, the bottom surface being wider than the corresponding stabilizing posts immediately below.
