The present invention relates to a composition for preventing or treating respiratory inflammatory diseases comprising a specific extract of Thuja orientalis leaves or a compound isolated therefrom as an active ingredient. According to the present invention, an extract of Thuja orientalis leaves was confirmed to have superior powerful therapeutic efficacy for respiratory inflammatory disease as compared to a water extract of Thuja orientalis leaves disease described in the prior literature, through a 5-lipoxygenase (5-LO) inhibitory action experiment using basophilic white blood cells; a nitrite (NO) generation inhibitory activity experiment using RAW264.7 cells; an inhibitory activity experiment for acute respiratory tract inflammation using a BALB/c mouse model with LPS induced lung injury; an allergic asthma inhibitory activity experiment using a BALB/c mouse model; and a reverse mutation toxicity experiment. Therefore, the extract of Thuja orientalis leaves is confirmed to be useful in preventing or treating respiratory inflammatory diseases, and thus can be usefully utilized in the prevention or treatment of respiratory inflammatory diseases.;COPYRIGHT KIPO 2016
