The present invention relates to an austenitic steel and, more specifically, relates to an austenitic steel with excellent resistance for adiabatic shear band formability; and a method to manufacture the same. According to the present invention, the austenitic steel comprises: 0.4-1.5 wt% of carbon (C); 14-21 wt% of manganese (Mn); 5.0 wt% or less of cobalt (Co) (excluding 0 wt%); and the remainder consisting of Fe and inevitable impurities.
