The present invention relates to an intelligent public transportation system and an operation method thereof. The intelligent public transportation system uses user terminals before users are onboard to recognize the number of passengers of a public transport means intending to use the same, enables fee payment without a separate tagging process when the users ride the public transport means, and enables the users to select destination platforms in advance, thereby enabling the user to express the intention to disembark without pressing a disembark bell. The intelligent public transportation system includes: a user terminal which includes payment means information for enabling the users of the public transport means to pay the usage fees and transmit the payment means information by using a short-range wireless communication method; a public transport terminal which is installed on the public transport means, adds payment fee information to the payment means information received from the user terminal to transmit a payment approval request, receives and displays payment approval information regarding the payment approval request, and transmits count information regarding the boarding and disembarking of passengers of the public transport means; and a management server which generates the payment approval information regarding the payment approval request to transmit the payment approval information to the public transport terminal and generates available seat information of the public transport terminal by receiving the count information to transmit the available seat information to the user terminal.;COPYRIGHT KIPO 2016
