The present invention lithium relates to a method for preparing a lithium titanium oxide-carbon-nitrogen composite material which can be used a negative electrode material for a secondary battery or a capacitor and has improved electrochemical properties. According to the present invention, provided is the method for preparing a lithium titanium oxide-carbon-nitrogen composite material containing aliphatic amine-derived carbon coating and nitrogen-doped layers on a surface of titanium oxide (Li_4Ti_5O_12), the method comprising the steps of: mixing lithium titanium oxide and aliphatic amine to form a mixture, and coating a surface of lithium titanium oxide with aliphatic amine by refluxing the mixture at a temperature ranging 80 to 120 degrees Celsius; obtaining solids by performing centrifugal separation on the mixture; drying the solids; and the carbonizing the dried solids. Also provided is a composite material prepared by the method.
