The present invention relates to a chili-derived CaAIR1 gene associated with resistance to drought stress in plants. More specifically, the present invention relates to a method for enhancing resistance to drought stress in plants by regulating the expression of CaAIR1 protein. In a transformed plant (CaAIR1-OX) in which the CaAIR1 gene is over-expressed, effects of reducing sensitivity to abscisic acid (ABA) and also reducing resistance to drought stress have been detected.
