To produce deoxycytidine effectively in Escherichia coli using a metabolic engineering approach based on a strategy for developing a thymidine producing strain, a deoxycytidine producing strain transformed using a metabolic engineering method is disclosed in E. coli. The present invention can provide a strain of Escherichia coli mutants which can efficiently produce deoxycytidine by manipulating a pyrimidine biosynthetic pathway in E. coli.
