A method for automatic IP assignment in a ship ad-hoc network according to the present invention includes the following stages: (A) one hop ship stations capable of direct transmission and reception to and from a ground station receive a non-overlapping IP block from the ground station by transmission and reception of an IP request signal (AREQ) and an IP request response signal (AREP) generated in a data link layer; (B) the one hop ship stations receiving the IP block determine IPs of themselves, perform data transmission and reception with the ground station, and assign the IP block as IP providers at a time of an IP block request by multi hop ship stations capable of indirect transmission and reception via ad-hoc communication; and (C) in a case where the multi hop ship stations assigned with no IP block receive a medium access control frame of a plurality of IP providers during channel assignment, one of the plurality of IP providers is determined for IP request signal (AREQ) transmission and the IP provider performs IP request response signal (AREP) transmission.
