FIELD: transport.;SUBSTANCE: invention relates to subsurface radar ranging and control of railroads and highways body. Humidity, contamination and thickness of body layers is determined using ground penetrating radar. Railroads or highways body consist of one or more layers of reflecting landscape fabric. Reflecting landscape fabric comprises electrically conductive elements. Ground penetrating radar electromagnetic signals reflected from landscape fabric electrically conducting elements are measured. Results are processed in quantitative manner using computer. Attenuation of reflected electromagnetic signals is determined by amplitude, and refraction index is by signals rate. Body humidity is determined by refraction index, and its contamination is by refraction index and signals attenuation. Thickness and humidity of stratified heterogeneous body layers are determined by form of reflected signals hodograph. Method is non-contact, non-destructive, fast and efficient.;EFFECT: technical result consists in increase of efficiency and quality of body survey, increase in railways and highways safety.;11 cl, 5 dwg
