Serial-parallel hybrid vehicle with a mechanical propulsion chain and an electric propulsion chain (generator (4), variator (7), motor (6)) driven by a power-diverting epicyclic gear train V (2), itself driven by a heat engine (1). This transmission has a storage of kinetic energy, either in the rotor of the generator (4), or by adding a flywheel (3) on its rotor. At low speed, the operation is pulsed with: an inactive phase where the rotor of the generator (4) drives the axle (5) and the heat engine (1); an active phase where the heat engine (1) drives the axle (5) and the rotor of the generator (4). This periodic operation allows a better efficiency of the heat engine (1) during its active phases. A second epicyclic gear Y (9) selectable by the selector (10) allows higher vehicle speeds in non-pulsed mode.
