Series hybrid vehicle - parallel with a chain of the propulsion system and a chain of the electric propulsion (generator (4), (7), a motor (6)) driven by an epicyclic gear train of v (2), - same driven by a heat engine (1). This transmission is provided with a storing kinetic energy, either in the generator rotor (4), or by addition of an inertia wheel (3) on its rotor. At low speed, the operation is pulsed with: an inactive phase where the generator rotor (4) drives the axle (5) and the thermal engine (1); an active phase where the thermal engine (1) causes the axle (5) and the rotor of the generator (4). This periodic operation allows a better yield of the thermal engine (1) during its active phases. A second epicyclic gear train, y (9) that can be selected by the selector (10) enables the speeds of the vehicle to be higher in pulsed mode.
