The present invention relates to the use, for the manufacture of a liquid aqueous detergent composition for household or industrial use, of a branched or crosslinked polymer obtained by polymerization of an aqueous solution of one or more monomers in water-in-water emulsion in oil, at least one of the monomers used being an acrylic monomer and one or more of the monomers used being a monomer carrying at least one weak acid function, the molar percentage of monomers carrying at least one weak acid function with respect to all the monomers used being at least 30%, characterized in that: i) the polymerization is carried out with a concentration of all the monomers in aqueous solution belonging to the range from 1.3 mmol to 3.6 mmol per gram of aqueous solution, ii) during the polymerization, not more than 20% of the acid functions present on the monomers having at least one acid function are found in neutralized form; detergent compositions for household or industrial use thus obtained and their uses for the treatment of textile fibers or surface including.
