The present invention relates to a device and method for detecting spores. The invention relates more particularly to a device with which spores, such as Phytophthora, can be collected from the air, detected, analyzed and preferably classified. The device comprises: a housing; an inlet for taking an air sample; a separating device connected to the inlet for separating particles in the air sample; and a measuring and analysis element for measuring the particles from the air sample and analyzing the measurement.
