The method involves pre-cooling a material (6) to be recycled in a pre-cooling zone (4), which is acted upon by an airflow discharged from a cooling zone such that the material is cooled about 70 Kelvin. The material is crushed in the cooled state. The crushed material is supplied into a non-ferrous metal separator (9). Non-iron parts are removed and discharged after the separation of composite materials. Remaining mixture is supplied to a washing vessel, where vapor-deposited metals are dissolved by acid-based solvents e.g. dilute mineral acids such as nitric or hydrochloric acid. An independent claim is also included for a system for recovery of metals from composite materials.
