PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a double chain stitch sewing machine with a device for preventing fraying which has a fraying prevention effect resulting from self-looping and does not cause trouble in cutting processing of a looper thread after the self-looping and in retaining the looper thread after cutting, and which can perform subsequent sewing reliably with excellent appearance in a prescribed manner.SOLUTION: In addition to a fraying prevention device H for performing self-looping, there is provided a looper thread pulling-back force application device 84 which, upon the advance movement of a looper 1 after the self-looping, hooks a looper thread portion 10a positioned so as to be stretched between a looper thread supply source device and the looper 1, and which moves toward the side, thereby bending the looper thread portion 10a to apply pulling-back force toward the side of the looper thread supply source device to a looper thread 10 supplied to the looper 1.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 13
