PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a moving handrail deterioration diagnostic device capable of finding a movement distance of a moving handrail without comprising any encoder.SOLUTION: According to the present invention, a moving handrail deterioration diagnostic device 12 that diagnoses damage to a steel cord embedded in a moving handrail 3 while the handrail 3 that an elevator 1 comprises is placed in operation comprises a rear wheel 13a rolling on an upper surface of the moving handrail 3; a magnetic tape 13c which is stuck on a peripheral surface of the rear wheel 13a and has an end part 13c1 forming a border part with a peripheral surface part; an excitation coil M1 and a receiving coil M2 which detect featured magnetic flux exiting from the end 13c1 of the magnetic tape 13c; and an arithmetic part which calculates a movement distance of the moving handrail 3 in operation based upon the number of peaks of the magnetic flux detected through those excitation coil M1 and receiving coil M2 and a length of the peripheral surface of the rear wheel 13a.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 5
