PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for diagnosing a predisposition of a bipolar disorder of an object, and establishing and determining the diagnosis.SOLUTION: An amount of at least one biomarkers derived from a cerebrospinal fluid and/or serum of an object, for example, an isocitric acid, is measured. The amount of at least one biomarker can be compared with a comparison amount of at least one biomarker of a corresponding sample collected from an object which does not suffer from bipolar disorder. Increase/decrease of the amount of measured specific biomarker(s) may become an index of that the object suffers from bipolar disorder or has a predisposition of bipolar disorder. A method for identifying a compound for preventing and/or treating bipolar disorder is based on an expression level of a 3 alpha and/or beta sub unit gene of an isocitric acid dehydrogenase, and/or based on one or more metabolic product biomarkers.SELECTED DRAWING: None
