Providing DEP manipulation devices and controllable electrowetting devices in the same microfluidic device

A microfluidic device is provided that includes a combination of a dielectrophoretic (DEP) configuration, each having an outer surface, and an electrowetting (EW) configuration, each having an electrowetting surface. The DEP part can generate a net DEP force against the outer surface of the DEP part to facilitate the movement of micro objects on the outer surface, and the EW part can improve the wetting characteristics of the electrowetting surface. It can be varied to facilitate moving liquid medium droplets on the electrowetting surface. The EW part can be used to divide the first part of the liquid medium droplet from the second part of the liquid droplet, and the DEP part can select the selected micro-part before dividing the liquid droplet. It can be used to move the object into the first part of the droplet.
