Method and apparatus for shaping and looping bonding wires that function as stretchable and bendable interconnects

A capillary tool used to send, bend and attach a bonding wire between a pair of bond pads includes a body and a heating element. The body has an inner tube that extends from the first surface of the capillary tool to the second surface of the capillary tool. In some implementations, the inner tube has a generally spiral shaped portion that includes at least a portion of a complete revolution about the central axis of the body. The heating element is coupled to the body and provides a heat affected zone along a portion of the inner tube that heats the bonding wire as the bonding wire is routed through the inner tube.
