A process for the preparation of SiOx nanofilament particles, wherein x is between 0.8 and 1.2, the process comprising silica (SiO2) and silicon to produce gaseous silicon monoxide (SiO) A process comprising a fusion reaction with (Si) at a temperature of at least approximately 1410 ° C. and a process comprising condensation of SiO gas to produce SiOx nanofilament particles. The process can further include using carbon. The inventors have planned and carried out a process for the preparation of SiOx materials having nanoscale filament structures (nanofilaments, nanostructured particles). The process of the present invention includes a high temperature fusion reaction between SiO2 and Si that leads to the formation of SiO gas and a condensation reaction of silicon monoxide fume under normal pressure (standard pressure) or under reduced pressure.
