PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a new iron-based alloy produced by extremely rapidly cooling immediately after being heated very rapidly. Disclosed are methods and materials made by optionally first initially spheroidizing a precursor iron-based alloy into a precursor material. After any spheronization annealing, the precursor material is rapidly heated above the material's austenitizing temperature and rapidly cooled to produce a high strength iron-based alloy. Disclosed are methods and materials for realizing a corrosion resistant high strength ferrous alloy and methods, materials and articles that demonstrate the ability to form a bend radius that is generally folded.
