PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a new iron-based alloy produced by extremely rapidly cooling immediately after extremely rapidly heating. SOLUTION: A method and a material made by optionally first spheroidizing and annealing an iron-based alloy as a raw material to a precursor material are disclosed. After any spheroidizing annealing, the precursor material is rapidly heated above the austenitizing temperature of the material and rapidly cooled to produce a high-strength iron-based alloy. Disclosed are methods and materials for realizing corrosion-resistant high-strength iron-based alloys, and methods, materials and articles that exhibit the ability to form bend radii that are substantially foldable.
