PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a merchandise explanation system for a visually challenged person capable of easily performing the image reading and reproduction as voice information of a braille label or the designed surface of merchandise, and transmitting the braille label or the designed surface of the merchandise as a voice to a visually challenged person.;SOLUTION: A merchandise explanation system 1 for a visually challenged person includes: a portable terminal 2 having a camera for fetching a braille label attached to the designed surface of merchandise or the designed surface of the merchandise as image information and a speaker; and a server 3. When a visually challenged person photographs the label or the designed surface of the merchandise by the camera of the portable terminal 2, photographed image information is transmitted from the portable terminal 2 to the server 3. The server 3 performs matching between the image information received from the portable terminal 2 and image information preliminarily registered in a database, and extracts the voice information of the merchandise from the database, and transmits the voice information to the portable terminal 2.
