The article discusses the conditions under which the optical-hardware-software complex of the simulator of the visual environment can be used in simulators for training pilots and vehicle drivers to solve the problem of visual orientation in space. The existing hardware and software complexes solving the problems of 3D-images synthesis solve the unified synthesis problems on the plane of the monitor screen of the 2D projection of three-dimensional objects. This method of image synthesis does not take into account the specific requirements of specialized cognitive learning environments. In particular, simulators of the visual environment should simulate visually observed models of three-dimensional objects with a quality sufficient for professional training of the eye. Such a task is divided into a number of subtasks: the choice of a specific optical-hardware system for simulating a pseudo-volumetric image; selection of synthesis rules on the screen for forming an intermediate image of a two-dimensional projection of a given three-dimensional object or objects; training the human visual apparatus to view a video sequence from two-dimensional projections and make a person assume that he sees a three-dimensional object and can at the same time professionally train his eye (visually assess the distance to visible three-dimensional objects).
