Provided is a method for producing an orexin neuron containing a step of culturing a pluripotent stem cell or a neural progenitor cell in the presence of N-acetyl-D-mannosamine. Also provided is a method for producing an orexin neuron containing a step of culturing a pluripotent stem cell or a neural progenitor cell in the presence of N-acetyl-D-mannosamine, and at least one inhibitor selected from the group consisting of a Sirtuin inhibitor and an O-linked ²-N-acetylglucosamine transferase inhibitor.
