PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce burden on a user in processing for generating an abbreviation of a given name.SOLUTION: The abbreviation generation method decomposes a plurality of names into words; extracts names including two or more common words; erases words that have relatively low discernment out of the two or more common words from the extracted names; and generates corresponding abbreviation by connecting words that are not erased for each name.
