"Metabolic engineering for the use of improved saccharomyces cerevisiae xylose". The present invention relates to a method for the preparation of an ethanol producing saccharonies cerevisiae strain, which optionally utilizes xylose, comprising genes for overexpression of xylose reductase, xylitol dehydrogenase and xylulokinase. In accordance with the present invention, said method is characterized in that in addition to said genes, the genes for the production of phosphoacetyl transferase and acetaldehyde dehydrogenase are introduced and optionally overexpressed. The present invention relates to the use of a recombinant yeast. Also in accordance with the present invention, said use is characterized in that the yeast is prepared in accordance with the method described above for the production of optionally ethanol containing xylose in growth medium, and / or for the production of xylose-containing ethanol in growth medium.
