This invention concerns a process for the production of alkyl amino phenylcarbamate (4),incorporating the steps to convert hydroxy phenyl ketone (2) to phenylcarbamate ketone (3),and conversion of phenylcarbamate ketone (3) to the desired phenylcarbamate amino alkyl (4). Optionally, phenylcarbamate amino alkyl (4) may be analysed against it; and/ortransformed into medically acceptable acid with salt added. The invention concerns further phenylcarbamate amino alkyl (4) and medically acceptable salts prepared by the above processspecific rivastigmine (1) and tartaric acid rivastigmine (9). Phenylcarbamide amino alkyls (4) may be included in pharmaceutical formulations. The invention concerns a further method of inhibition of acetylcholinesterase or treatment of dementia,of old age dementia,Alzheimer's disease,the Huntington's chorus, the suspicious constipations,of hyperkinesia,confusion disorder,of disorder,Friedrich's disorder, Down syndrome, mania or acute confusion disorder,using the phenylcarbamate amino alkyl(4) of this invention.
