The present invention relates to the field of pharmaceutical and provides a pharmaceutical compound and the method that selectively modulates thyroid hormone and creates brain specific hypothyroidism useful for medical therapy of cerebral ischemia and cerebral ischemia reperfusion injuries. The pharmaceutical compound is a thyroid hormone analogue more particularly an inert thyroid hormone analogue (iTHA), its pharmaceutically acceptable forms and medicament for the therapy of cerebral ischemia, cerebral ischemia reperfusion injuries.
